A few months ago, I shared my thoughts about Growth Mindset with nyou. I expressed the view that people with a Growth Mindset believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard enough. We saw this with the achievements of our A level and GCSE pupils last year and by our recent GCSE results. We also have regular reports from our parents after they have received positive comments from school. Through their hard work and determination, our pupils are achieving their goals.
While I was out shopping last week, I noticed Nike’s strap-line ‘Just Do It’ – it made me stop and think. Sometimes, even as adults we have to be told to stop thinking about doing something and ‘Just Do It’. This could be moving jobs, moving house, or for some us, making the decision to retire early!
One of my friends moved out to live in France 15 years ago. She had been a very successful nurse and had sung in the local church choir. She moved out with her three children, however, her husband was often away with work. She only had a small French vocabulary, but each time we went out to visit her, her French had improved tremendously. I was so impressed. After the children had left home, she develop her love of singing, and booked herself onto a ‘Natural Voice’ course. Over the next few years, she continued to attend these courses. She spoke to a few of her friends in France, in now, almost fluent French and said how she loved this way of singing. She told them that she would love to start a Natural Voice choir in the area, but didn’t know if she could. What she really meant was, she didn’t know if she had the confidence to take this step. After a few conversations like this, one of her friends said, “Oh for goodness sake, ‘Just Do It”. She did, and not only is it a thriving group but she also runs a French Natural Voice choir in the local College.
It also made me think of one of our teaching assistants in school. She had her maths and English GCSEs, and a degree, but the thing that was holding her back from training to be a teacher was her D in science. She came to Darren, and asked if she was too old to come to tuition, as she would need help to
pass this exam. Darren laughed, and she started to attend tuition every week. She put all her effort into passing that exam, and she was ecstatic when she rang me on results day to say she had passed. During the conversation, she said to me, “You know Alison, I just said to myself, Stop worrying about it. Just
do it!”
We also had one of our GCSE students, who had a dream to join the Navy. He needed his English and maths. He didn’t find it easy, but came to tuition week after week. He put all the effort he could into passing those exams – and he did! Now wasn’t he an example of just knuckling down and just doing it!
What I ask is, what are your dreams? How can you make them become a reality? Just make a step by step plan and… “Just Do It!”
Thank you Nike!
Thank you for you’re your support and going above and beyond to support my child.
Happy ParentI can only say a big thank you for your lovely staff, he enjoys learning at Creative in Excellence. Thank you
Happy Parent"Just wanted to thank Emyr for helping my son Matthew Jones with his GCSE Maths. Matthew got 2 C’s which we are delighted with. Could you let me know when Emyr will be at your offices so I can pop down to thank him personally."
Nicola Jones (Parent, GCSE student)I just wanted to let you know that my son has had his A Level results this morning. He achieved 3 Grade A’s in Maths, Physics & Chemistry. He has gained admission to his 1st choice of university.
We would all like to thank you so much for your assistance with my son as without the work that your tutors put in he would never have achieved these grades.
Happy ParentWould just like to take the opportunity to also thank his tutor. We had his parents evening on Thursday and my sons maths teacher was very happy with his attitude to learning, and he has also gone from around 40-50% in his tests to 80%. We were over the moon!
Happy ParentI can’t believe his results we have cried with happiness. Thank you so very much for your fantastic help and your amazing teachers. I know his future is bright now.
Happy ParentSince coming to Creative in Learning, I feel a lot more confident with my maths. It’s great to have someone to really explain the bits I have been struggling with. When I am shown in a slightly different way, it all starts to click!
GCSE Pupil, Year 11May I say how wonderful Suzanne has been with my daughter during her GCSE journey. She has gained so much because Suzanne is incredible at getting the message across and making learning real. My daughter is going to be studying for A levels in September and so I will be in touch for further support in the new academic year. I would really like Suzanne to continue to assist her.
Happy ParentThank you. It’s been the best thing we could’ve done for Sara and it’s got her grades to a good place.
Happy ParentI can’t recommend them enough. My daughter is now 100% more confident, she’s gone from being upset doing her maths to understanding what she’s doing and getting really good results in her tests.
Happy ParentFreddie was extremely reluctant, as we knew he would be, but having returned home with "an equations God" (his words!) we're all now feeling very positive! Please do everything you can to ensure Freddie continues to work with Jack, he's made a big impression.
Happy ParentComing for tutoring at Creative has made a huge difference to Niamh’s confidence. School have commented that she is more willing to answer questions and she is happy to give maths a try now!
Happy parentAs you know, the reason we wanted Lily to have extra maths tuition is because she was really struggling with all areas of maths. This last 6 months, since starting with yourselves, my husband Eric, myself and Lily have noticed a massive increase in Lily’s confidence in this area. She loves working with Charlotte and she has had a huge impact on Lily’s learning. Lily tried her numeracy GCSE early this June in year 10. The highest grade she could get on the paper she tried was a B and she got a B!!!!
We are overwhelmed and thrilled to bits, so thank you so much! All credit to your fantastic tutors and great set up. We have recommended you to so many people and will continue to do so. "
Sharon"Just wanted to say thank you to all involved with tutoring Freya. Her confidence in maths has come on so much she has been moved up 2 sets in school since she has started."
Parent, Year 8 PupilI would also like to take this opportunity to thank you and every single member of your very special team that has worked with him over the last 12 to 18 months, I really have no idea what we would have done without you all. He has loved going to Creative and often talks about how the staff treats him and shows interest in him and what is going on in his life. You really have made a very positive impact on a young person who has struggles.
Please pass on my thanks to all your team, you are all superstars in my opinion. An absolute credit and vital support to the education system and the young people that have struggles.
Happy ParentWhat a difference a term makes. My daughter now enjoys maths. She has moved sets and is much more confident.
Parent, Year 7 pupilIt’s helped me with my spellings a lot, and it’s helped me with my times tables. At school, I used to hate the tests but now I don’t.
Pupil, Year 6I like all the games we play like Jenga to learn our times tables.
Pupil, Year 3It helped me develop a great cognitive understanding of mathematics at A level.
Pupil, Year 13My son, is really proud of himself as he has never achieved well at school and has always struggled. We are so grateful to you for being so supportive of him and encouraging him so much. My husband, who sometimes listens in to your sessions, always says that he hopes you go on to be a teacher as you have a natural talent for teaching and would make an excellent teacher.
